About the Hymnal from Darrell Harris

Darrell Harris wrote the following about The Christian Life Hymnal a few days ago.
Martin Luther said "Music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul." Seldom is that more evident than in a well put together hymnal. And Jesus said "Every scribe that has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old." (Matt. 13:52)
All of the timeless classics are here. And there are numerous new gems as well. Eric Wyse's powerful new setting for "At the Name of Jesus" (#208) is alone worth the price of admission. There are many streams and tributaries that feed into the abundant waters that make up The Christian Life Hymnal. Drink deeply, be refreshed, and enjoy.

Dean of the Chapel
Darrell is a good friend, and is the co-writer of 3 selections in the hymnal. With pianist Tom Howard, he composed the Memorial Acclamation in the Service Music Setting "It Is Finished" #629 which we use each week at our church during the Eucharist.

Darrell and I have written several songs together, 2 of which are included in the hymnal. "Be Still" #609 was written for use in our "Quietude" services (contemplative services of prayer, music, and scripture in the vein of
Taizé). It works well as a call to worship. "A Peaceful Night" #580 is a benediction based on The Service of Compline from The Book of Common Prayer.
